Kevin, Thank you for your kind words. I did go to the site you recommended and I totally agree with your beliefs and goals.

I have been an "activist" so to speak most of my life as a volunteer where I thought I could do some good to make a difference. I have also been politically involved during this last half century. However my views were not the popular views (conservative) so my voice was a tiny crying in the wilderness type of thing.

People often cite Reagan as being conservative and against big government but the fact is he merely talked conservative. The government actually grew under Reagan! So we haven't operated in a conservative mode during most of this century. We have demanded more and more services from government and the politicians in order to get power over the people have given us those services. AND a whole lot more that we didn't know we were getting as they took control of our lives.

What I am saying is that Obama was inevitable. WE THE PEOPLE allowed it to come with our inattention. Now we are awakened and acting. There are so many organizations just like yours forming all over the nation and they are making a difference. And they will make more of a difference as time goes on. We have a big battle on our hands because we let the fire get out of control, but the young adults 30's and 40's are awake now.

As for me, I am an old lady who is unable to do the things I did in the past. So I am doing what I can. With the Internet I am keeping up this blog with the intent of keeping people informed as to what is happening in Washington and the world when it relates to the United States. I read many sources of news and then choose the articles I feel are important. (I don't report on issues that are getting a lot of coverage from the news channels in most cases. ) Younger people are too busy to search out news so I do it for them.

This blog then is my contribution to the cause of liberty. We Americans are about to lose it and when we do then liberty will live no longer on Earth.

Sincerely, Brenda Bowers.

I would be happy to have conversations with you either on the posts when it is a topic you wish to expound on, or on my Blogger Conversations and Comments Page (at the very top of the site!) which I set up in the hopes of generating a free flow of ideas no matter what the topic. so Kevin do come over and visit anytime! :) BB

I was looking for the author of the quote "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it" and found your website and was very impressed with it. Particularly interesting were your responses to the liberals who, after failing intellectually, resorted to name calling. I have always found that sad, but amusing.
I don't want to take a lot of your time here, but if, after looking at our site at http://www.wtpalabama.com and getting a little familiar with what we are trying to do, I would like to talk to you further... if you are interested.

My very best regards,
Kevin Cannon

Yes. Basic history books pre 1960. Even college history books would work. My daughter read all of my college text that interested her before she got thru high school as they like news papers are written for the 6th grade reading skill level. You might even root around in some used book stores and get a 1950 ties World Book Encyclopedia set. This will give them a good grounding in who and what Americans were before the last 60 years. Yes it is history of "dead white men", but our history was "dead white men". These white men were the movers and shakers and designers of what we are---saints and sinners all.

Start watching the history channel on TV. Most programing is good. From time to time a piece gets in that is slanted too far towards the "poor victim" but basically the programming is.good. I get really upset that history is being rewritten about the Native Americans and slavery. The noble Red man was not all that noble truth be told. Yes the Whites broke treaty after treaty and the way the Cherokee nation was treated with the Trail of Tears was a sin we as a nation will pay for, but this has ever been the way of peoples thru out the eons: the weaker are taken over by the stronger. And as far as discrimination, well I remember being called a "hunky" because of my being only second generation northern European. It is just human nature and formation of the pecking order in society. It's not right but then neither is the appendix either but we have the sucker sitting there just waiting to grab us.

Now, what can you do? Listen to the evening news with your girls and during the commercials talk about what you have seen and what is behind the news. At first you will have a tendency to get too involved in tying all the ends together. So try to give just the basic facts to their questions leaving time and exposure to clear up the picture.

Over time they will be able to start making their own selections of readings based on this firm foundation of who we were, are and are becoming. There are still a lot of good historians out there. This is when they will fill in the last 60 years of what I can only call the demise of American education. Unfortunately it encompassed my own time as an instructor where I was constantly swimming against the tide I might add. Many text were stuck in the desk and never dusted off until the last day of the school year while I more or less wrote my own texts for my students.

Oh yes, the best for documentaries: Ken Burns! He can not be beat on any level. And for Gods sake keep them far away from the Michael Moores and even the Al Gores.

Thank you for asking this old school marm her advice. made my day. :) BB

Brenda,

Thank you for your reply. It is very much appreciated.

You are absolutely right, he can not make excuses for his "ignorance" that (at some degree) might be influenced by his "identity crisis" in his early life.

Fyi, my 12 years old and 10 years old girls have started to fall in love with history after watching "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones" complete set.

I am currently looking for some good books on U.S. history for them as a follow up.

Any recommendation?

Thank you again.

Yes but one can not get thru college without at least a few history classes and law is all about history. I can find no reason and certainly no excuse for his ignorance. Except perhaps the only one necessary for one who wants to remake history as it was into history as they want it to be and that is to tell outright lies and tell them often enough that some people begin to believe them. One is that the United States is a Muslim nation when Muslim immigrants only began coming into the United States during the past 40 years. and then speaking of Jakarta it might interest you that he went to Muslim schools and as you say early training has much influence on the way the adult thinks.
I think Obama’s lack of knowledge of American history is affected by his "nomadic childhood". From ages six to ten, Obama attended local schools in Jakarta, Indonesia. History lesson (and the passion for it) starts in the elementary schools.

Thank you for stopping by JDH. I am appalled at Obama's lack of knowledge of American history. I have a young Polish student who visits my site on-line from time to time who is more informed on our history. I can forgive high school students because what they have and have not been taught is not their fault, it is in fact ours for allowing it to happen. I can not however forgive a President who claims America is a Muslim nation when their population is less than one tenth of one percent. And their advent into this country has only taken place in the past 50 years or so. I would love to see his transcripts to see just what he did study in college!

Of course what has happened to our schools was planned well and has succeeded. You may be interested in my videos on Subverting America. See Pages on right hand column. "Yuri Bezmenov"

thank you again for stopping by and your comments. BB

BB,
Bravo for your reply to anonymous. I also agree wholeheartedly with your comments about history not being taught (properly? at all?) these days. One thought I would add about the danger inherent in the 'social studies' being taught today - it is presented with conclusions drawn rather than just a presentation of the historical facts - so our youth are not only missing out on the facts of history, but they are being told the 'lessons' rather that having to reason through them and decide on the consequences of historical decisions and actions. This isn't so bad for history of 100+ years, as most of the lessons and conclusions can be agreed upon. But for more recent history there may not be consensus or even complete evolution of the events and aftereffects to definitively define the lessons - but many of our 'know-it-all' kids are sure they have been taught the absolute answers, unfortunately somewhat like our president.

However all the sources are wrong since Sir Winston Churchill's actual quote was :
"A nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it."

But as is common with quotes being repeated they are often changed and this is one example. I merely went along with the mistaken wording because it is the commonly used quote ascribed to Churchill.

You are wrong also because George Santayana said:

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

And Mr. No Name, I do speak with authority because I check my sources. If I had given Socrates credit for that statement i would have had a dozen clowns like you telling me I was wrong. So I took the easy way and chose to go along with the common belief. It was harmless and was close enough to what Churchill actually said.

Happy you dropped by. Do come again. :) BB

However all the sources are wrong since Sir Winston Churchill’s actual quote was :
“A nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it.”

But as is common with quotes being repeated they are often changed and this is one example. I merely went along with the mistaken wording because it is the commonly used quote ascribed to Churchill.

You are wrong also because George Santayana said:

It's absolutely horrifying -- and so ironic -- that you think you have so much to say with such authority -- and yet you lead with such a stunning error. George Santayana -- NOT CHURCHILL -- is responsible for the quote that you took as your headline.
