Do you want your children Brainwashed in our schools?

************************************************************************************************************

Go to fullsize image

I hope my readers will pay close attention to the following post.  It concerns  a bill currently in committees in the House and Senate that was  introduced by Senator Obama and two other  Congressmen  from Illinois.   This bill is based on the educational theories of William Ayers.

Who is William Ayers?  He is an American terrorist from the 1960’s.  He is a radical socialist who bombed buildings.  He was never punished and has never changed his views.  Instead he was pardoned in 1980 and is now a professor of education.  He is also the man Obama says he doesn’t really know and is only slightly associated with.  An yet Obama has introduced this bill in our Congress based on this man’s view of education.

This bill  literally calls for the brainwashing of  our children!  Educational Psychology was my field and I can say emphatically that these people can be dangerous if their minds are warped.  And yet this bill would put  social engineers, social workers and psychologist into the schools and  with daily access to children to teach them correct  “social behaviors”.

Do you want your child taught correct social behaviors  in our schools?  Do you want to turn your children over to social engineers and psychologists  and given the full support of the US federal government to  bend and twist their beliefs and thus behaviors into some pattern  that fit’s a terrorist’s ideas of what is right and wrong?  Well, Senator Barrack Obama, a man now running for the  presidency of the United States, wants this  so much that he actually introduced  legislation that would make this the law of the land.  What do you think will happen to this bill if he becomes president.

Getting to children in schools is a  favorite tactic of  Communist and Socialists countries.  Get to the children and you will claim the population.  I am sure you have all seen the news  videos of little children  neatly lined up singing and reciting verses that glorify their leaders ideology.  Think China!    And then imagine American children in place of the Chinese children.  That is what this bill is all about.

S. 2111, The Positive Behavior for Effective Schools Act

“S. 2111 would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to allow State educational agencies, local educational agencies, and schools to increase implementation of early intervention services, particularly school-wide positive behavior supports.”

Positive Behavior for Effective Schools Act – Amends the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) to allow states to allocate school improvement funds under title I of the ESEA for coordinated, early intervention services for all students. Includes among such services, school-wide positive behavior support, defined as a systematic approach to embed proven practices for early intervention services in order to achieve important social outcomes and increase student learning, while preventing problem behaviors.

Requires improvements in school-wide learning climates, including school-wide positive behavior supports, to be a target of: (1) technical assistance provided by states to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools, and by LEAs to schools identified as needing improvement; (2) school-wide programs that allow LEAs to consolidate educational funds to upgrade the entire educational program of schools that serve a high proportion of low-income families; (3) professional development funding; (4) funding under the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities program; and (5) elementary and secondary school counseling programs.

Amends the Department of Education Organization Act to establish, within the Department of Education, an Office of Specialized Instructional Support Services to oversee, implement, and ensure adequate evaluation of, the provision of specialized instructional support services in schools by school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other qualified professionals.”

    Ms. Bowers,

I don’t wish to be disrespectful, but I am having a difficult time understanding your thinking or logic. I’m old, when something strikes me as inaccurate, I tend to be rather direct and possess little patience, but please hear me out. Your sources of information appear based on political rumors that hav been in the news so much lately. You seem to link this Ayers man with Positive Behavior Support because he knows Obama. I have found absolutely NO connection between Ayers and Positive Behavior Supports. The news is filled with links about Obama and Ayers that seem to border on thinly disguised fear mongering. I don’t care much about who this Ayers gentleman is–

That said, for starters, Please check out the United States Department of Education OSEP technical assistance center for more information:

    www. pbis.org

Please, for your sake– for our country’s sake– for the love of citizenship and the future of our democracy, regardless of politics– do more, THINK more, and LEARN more about what you write about before passing on unsubstantiated rumors (guilt by association) and bordering on (what I would consider) hate speech repeated from other folks’ blogs. It makes me an angry American to read things like this. I don’t like the politics of fear– after reading your story, I bet you can do better.

    Sincerely

    Kay Ak

    Ms. Bowers,
Thank you for your thoughtful reply and refreshingly respectful tone. Your sincere and thoughtful post begets a respectful response. I still vehemently disagree with linking this Ayers fellow with positive behavior supports. Spurred on by curiosity about points in your reply, I did little more snooping around the internet. Ironically, I found he has a very left leaning blog (surprise?). A recent posting (based on a review of a book by a Linda Pearlstein sp?) appears to debunk positive behavior support (i.e., as a way to trying to make $ from schools)— But from everything I have read and everyone I’ve asked, no one is making money off of it (I use that “make money” criteria as my guide to determine if something is full of baloney)!
In short, I would disagree with his post and also, your assessment of PBIS. Again, please look at website and tell me SPECIFICALLY what the problem is (www.pbis.org). It seems to provide a fairly non-partisan look at a helpful framework for schools. Why do I get my undies in a bunch when I hear people making disparaging remarks about positive behavior support?
My grandson is at an elementary school in Missouri using it and it doesn’t seem like some version of a communist mind control recruitment-like camp for goodness sake! He and his classmates are periodically recognized for doing a good job when they show the school’s 3 B’s (be respectful, be responsible, be safe). He was taught what that means on his school bus (e.g., stay in your seat, listen your driver, stay in the safe zone), in the lunchroom (wait your turn, ask any adult for help if you need it), in the bathroom (do your business, flush and wash you hands) and his classroom (use your thinking skills, work hard, use kind words). His principal and teachers periodically let him and his classmates know a good job is being done and a paper link is put up as part of a chain. When the chain reaches to her office, the students earn extra story time! (my daughter volunteers as one of those readers, as well as some volunteers from the nearby high school). He and classmates also bring home thank you notes recognizing their good deeds. My son is a high school principal in Maryland who has been working with local businesses to recognize students demonstrating their Cougar Pride – part of their PBIS program (students do service learning projects and are recognized by local businesses). Their suspensions and behavior reports have decreased dramatically and consistently over the past 4 years. In short, I think it is just simply a good idea and not rocket science or some kind of scary mind control.
I am trying to understand the anger, bordering on hate that keeps spilling from both sides of our political spectrum. That said, I have voted for President Reagan, President George H.W. Bush, as well as President Clinton and Vice President Gore. At this point I will very likely choose Mr. Obama. I think President George W. Bush has not shown the wisdom and patience his father did, and that has been unfortunate for many of us (my opinion only). I think Senator McCain is a good man, and an honorable airman. I’ve liked him through the years, because both parties were constantly unhappy with him (which, in my book, was a good sign of someone speaking his mind). I have been so disappointed with how harsh things have sounded in the past months, and how he seems to have left behind some of his core beliefs in the name of politics, or more likely, his handlers. I know. That’s politics.
Brenda, you have a personal story that has clearly shaped your views. I’d like to share a little story of mine. I have a daughter who is gay, I have a niece born with severe disabilities, I have a born-again uncle, and an atheist sister, my other sister is a VP for a major corporation (she is a solid Democrat) who is married to a fiscally conservative Republican, who is an Air Force Lt. Col. — I grew up working class, my father a mechanic and mother worked as a township clerk. I was the first in my family to go to college—and benefited from a lot from government loan programs.
So, here’s the thing. I love and have loved them all. It hasn’t always been easy. I have made many mistakes and have said hurtful things over the years. Needless to say, we agree on precious little except that we would do anything for each other out of love and respect (even when we occasionally hold our noses at dinner conversations!). Along those lines, while I may not agree on everything Mr. Obama stands for, I do respect his civility and willingness to demonstrate hard work, careful thinking about complex issues and his sense of history. Regarding who he may have spent time with, I just don’t understand what that is supposed to signify. I don’t want to sound preachy, really, so please don’t take this the wrong way. I am a Christian, and I believe my Savior has been a good role model for me on making judgments about who one can associate with—enough along those lines. Too many good people have made one’s personal spirituality a joke or a weapon and I just don’t want to go there.
I have yet to vote for someone who I agree with 100% of the time. Frankly, Because I believe we need leaders who seek to find some common ground— the older I get the more I appreciate it is a world in which I get some of what I need, you get some of what you need and we both don’t get everything we want.
Thank you again for your refreshingly positive tone and thoughts and for respectfully hearing me out. Please keep up the positive tone, even if folks like me disagree with you. I will playfully chide you to research the big issues from numerous sides, the world is that complex! May God Bless you and your family
    Respectfully,
    -Kay Ak.

  3. I made a mistake. I was correcting a typo on my first answer and instead of hitting the word SAVE I must have hit “delete comment” which is next to the Save. My dog was begging to go outside so I left computer. My husbands computer is being repaired so he decided to use my while I was out and proceeded to approve the “delete comment” which he assumed I wanted to do. Now I simply haven’t the energy to try to recreate my views.

LOL Having two geriatrics in the same house is sometimes presents a chore beyond my abilities to cope! Of course being one of those geriatrics does pose a special problem in and of itself. BB

  4. Kay, My comment was running long (I am known for my ability to use 10 words when one will do.) so I passed on commenting on the PBIS program. I instead tried to again explain what I found so objectionable about the Obama bill.

I have been retired from teaching for years now so am not personally familiar with the PBIS program you are referring to. However I did go to the site last night and looked it over. This program being used in the schools is a teacher based program. That is, the lessons suggested for the teacher’s use in his/her classroom as he/she sees fit. This is from what I could tell a good program and I see nothing wrong with it. My criteria is that it is “teacher based” and that the children are not subjected to the professional manipulations of professional social engineers as is the case with the Obama bill. In fact, I see a great deal good with the program. Ironically I was involved with creating a very similar teaching program in the late 1970’s. It was published in book form and sold quite well.

Though I do not visit Ayers blog as I hardly waste time on what I consider fools so I wasn’t aware that he denounced the PBIS program. I can see where this would be his reaction to the PBIS program as it is being used. Ayers believes only professionals in the field of psychology should be implementing his version of “positive behavior” instruction. His words and the words used in the bill are “…reshape children’s thinking and therefore their behavior”.

This is the bill Obama introduced to Congress. The exact words in the bill are “Amends the Department of Education Organization Act to establish, within the Department of Education, an Office of Specialized Instructional Support Services to oversee, implement, and ensure adequate evaluation of, the provision of specialized instructional support services in schools by school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other qualified professionals.” And therein lies the huge difference in what you are talking about and what I am talking about. Please take these words seriously because if this bill is enacted it will not be just another bureaucracy, it will be the first government backed program legalizing the brainwashing of our children. Read those words. “…… the provision of specialized instructional support services in schools by school counselors, social workers, psychologists, and other qualified professionals.”! The schools now using the program you are talking about probably have some school counselors and maybe a social worker or two, but this bill calls for a great deal more.

Read the wording of the bill Kay. Now do you understand my anger? In fact, down right horror at what this man has introduced into Congress and just may get away with. I will fight this bill in every way I know how to fight it. I hope this clears up this misunderstanding. These people are using the right words to soothe and mislead.

As for making money from the program………well, yes it certainly would increase the need for and therefore the salaries of a group of professionals who after years of study in psychology or social work fields find themselves suited only to get a job at McD’s. If S. 2111, The Positive Behavior for Effective Schools Act is enacted these professional social engineers will suddenly find themselves actually being hunted down and bid for by school systems forced by the law to employ them.

Ayers is a professor of Education who uses all the “right” words in explaining his theories of education. But when one reads the fine print and between the lines one readily understands his view of education. He is a socialist terrorist now as he was then. He is merely using different “bombs”. Thank goodness he is singing to the chorus in Chicago and has remained there in that atmosphere that tolerates and protects him. Thugs protecting thugs; it’s called the “Chicago Way”.

I see we have the same voting record. Interesting. But then the more you write the more I think we have in common. Do you by the way have a blog?

I agree the Bush son hasn’t the wisdom of the father. The big mistake was getting into Iraq, but that was clearly the agenda when he named his VP and his cabinet. I do sincerely believe Saddam had WMD’s, but he had ample time to ship them across the border to Syria.

I was so opposed to that invasion but Congress, both Republican and Democrat, went along with it and then were amazed when we were not welcomed as heroes by the population. I am often amazed at how we Americans fail to understand the rest of the world and acknowledge that they simply do not think as we do. Oh well, I won’t go there today. What I will say is that being against the war as I was I am now very much in agreement with McCain that we should stay until the country is secure and able to take care of itself. It is a case of we broke it now we buy it. Also being a military wife with relatives still in the military I am privy to information that our mainstream media isn’t giving us. Fully 70% of our troops in Iraq are involved in social projects. That is building schools, clinics, utilities, as well as teaching, doctoring and in short trying to help the people of Iraq. All we hear about are the few war like actions that take place. I sometimes wonder why no one questions the numbers: the small number of troops involved in these military incidents and the number of troops in Iraq. What do people suppose the thousands of troops are doing while the few are involved in a fire fight or patrol duties?

Kay, McCain has simply tried to tell the people who this man Obama is. If you feel it has been harsh then I say again that the truth is often nasty. And the truth about Obama from my research is nasty. I have never been one to judge people solely on their words and demeanor. I tend to look very closely at their actions. Words are cheap and political promises even cheaper. All these things candidates say they are going to do you and I know is so much hog wash. The President is a bully pulpit and figure head, nothing more. He can send bills to Congress, but he must get 220 votes in the House and 51 in the Senate to get anything done. The candidates have to talk about something while trying to get people familiar with them enough to vote for them so they make empty promises. This is not to say their promises are not what they would like to see done in their time slot, but they won’t get done unless they are fortunate enough to get a Congress of like thinking. And, the words and promises do give us some small indications of who they are, sometimes. As I said however, I am one to look at past actions rather than words, or perhaps the same words and philosophy spoken over years.

Obama is a charmer with charisma oozing from his pores. McCain is not. McCain is as you say a good and honorable man who has ever done what he believed to be best for his country. He has been right and he has been wrong. I believe you will agree however that when he has been wrong he has tried to make amends and admit his error.

Unlike so many who are concerned about the economy as being our number one problem, I see the world at large as our biggest problem. There is a war on terror going on and this war is unfortunately one in which Muslims figure prominently since the terrorists throughout the world are Muslim. This being the case I sincerely believe we need a president who is wise enough with enough experience to deal with this over riding threat to our security. Obama is not. McCain is more than qualified.

The economy will come back eventually. (Before I go on let me say Lew and I have lost about a third of our pensions thru company bankruptcy and a hefty portion of our savings, so I do take the economy seriously). I am merely a pragmatist. The economy was riding for a fall and most people who cared to look saw it coming. This is how it works, ups and downs. I was very much opposed to the $700 billion bail out. Oh, well I have blogged enough on that too. Funny thing tho is that this issue was the one really great chance McCain had to cinch the election; all he had to do was come out against the Bail Out since the population was so against it. It probably still would have passed after the Senate added $2 billion in pork to buy the votes needed, but McCain would have been on record as being with the people. Then he could have gone on to present the plan he is now touting. You are right that McCain’s handlers have not been the best for either him or Palin.

Unlike you I have not and am not upset with what is being called “Negative Ads” or “Negative Campaigning”. Kay this is not at all a new phenomena. If anything the rhetoric is more tame now than it has been in the past. Go back and check out the “hate speech” used at any time before the advent of TV and you will see hate and lies and mud slinging. The advent of TV where words were suddenly recorded and could then be check out and verified made outright lying and really nasty mud not so easy to get away with. So now they just twist the words a bit to give another meaning. Or they mis-use pictures. One Obama ad was ingenious; the only scandal spoken of was the Keating Five, but scrolling across the screen were other scandals such as Watergate that McCain had nothing to do with. He wasn’t even in Congress when Watergate happened. The point I am trying to make is, if you had been watching FactCheck.org you would have seen that actually Obama had on par more harsh and untruthful or misleading ads about McCain than McCain had about Obama.

I was also outraged by Georgia Rep. John Lewis comparing McCain to George Wallace. I was seeing red over this. And not a world out of Obama! Not a word. Whereas at McCain’s town meetings he tried to curb any slurs made about Obama. And came out and denounced any ads that called Obama by any names. Obama is a terrorist was one in which McCain became angry. Obama associated with a known terrorist for years but Obama himself never participated in a terrorist action. I did say it is all about character didn’t I?

Obama is pretty and talks nice and says nice sounding words but to my mind he certainly lacks character. In fact, he has always lacked character because people of character do not associate themselves with people who lack character as he has done consistently over the years. Kay, you can not tell me any thing that could make me forget or forgive him for attending the church of Jeremiah Wright for 20 years! And you cannot make me believe that Obama and his wife did not agree with what Jeremiah Wright was saying. So you would put a man who agrees with “God dam America” in the White House because he “while I may not agree on everything Mr. Obama stands for, I do respect his civility and willingness to demonstrate hard work, careful thinking about complex issues and his sense of history.” And regarding his sense of history may I refer you to “Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Sir Winston Churchill
May 10, 2008 http://brendabowers.wordpress.com/2008/05/10/those-whofail-to-learn-from-history-are-doomed-to-repeat-it-sir-winston-churchill/ Obama does not have a sense of history at all. Any more than his running mate Biden does who had FDR going on TV during the Depression.

Well I am getting angry now and need to wind this up. But every time I get on Obama’s character and all of the above paragraph I really see red when people pass it off as you did.
“…. Regarding who he may have spent time with, I just don’t understand what that is supposed to signify.”

Anyhow, one more point: “Because I believe we need leaders who seek to find some common ground— the older I get the more I appreciate it is a world in which I get some of what I need, you get some of what you need and we both don’t get everything we want.” I believe this is called compromise Kay. And tell me if you can who in the US Congress has tried to find compromise more than John McCain? And tell me also when Obama ever tried to find compromise? If you look at his voting record which is all I can find to go by then you will see he voted as far left as he could get. He wasn’t even middle ground for God’s sake. Which brings up the question: have you looked at his voting record while in the Senate? or in the Illinois senate?

J J It has been fun Kay. You have gotten me to defend my views which I love to do. You have also introduced me to a program I didn’t know was out there. I left teaching so many years ago. I do still read Psychology Today purely out of habit I suppose, but just haven’t kept up with methodology. You are right about this being a complex world and that is why I am grateful for the internet allowing me to go into all these countries everyday and read their newspapers. Fascinating! One thing tho that my husband Lew (71) and I (67) speak of sometimes is the fact that we are happy to be on the back side of this particular lifetime because as things are we lived in the best of times, or at least the most innocent. I don’t much like the world I have been instrumental in leaving my grandchildren. I have tried to do better but failed, and because of that their lives will be so much harder than mine.

    Sincerely, Brenda Bowers
Just don’t have energy to re-read this guided missile (or mishap, depending on your view) so please try to read thru and around typos. BB

  5. Kay

    Oh my, Brenda,
Ha! what a tough, stubborn and wonderful cookie you are!! Again, I enjoyed your comments. It hit me, I need to tell you something, that I didn’t think was needed, but I feel obliged, given where I want to take this discussion. I am a Negro (well, that’s what they’d called me in the day!)—I, like your husband, am 72 years old, and have seen and lived through a lot of “history” not many folks I know would use “that” word, but you seem insightful enough and would appreciate the irony (mind you my grandson would yell at me!) I guess the young folks call me African American (or in these modern times “Bi-racial”-my father was white, my mother black)-
Like you, Representative Lewis’ comments made me EXTREMELY angry also, (please know I wrote him my mind, and appreciate that he appropriately apologized–If I were his mother, his behind would be hurting)! I also remember Mr. Wallace you mentioned about the South, I recall the day in’ 72 when he was shot, and I remember, as a middle aged woman, how hard it was to figure out how I felt.
I also want to tell you something about that Reverend Wright fellow. He’s what in our community we call “old school”—I’m an old woman, what and how he preached is what got my grandparents through some old Jim Crow laws in the South. We were angry and treated unfairly- and we said so (in our communities). I can tell from your replies, you know this history—it’s just sad that we all haven’t been able to let it go. It was hard to hear Senator Obama disassociate himself from Rev. Wright.—In our community, we knew Rev. Wright said things after the first brew-haha, that Barrack had to distance himself. I know it must be hard to hear those youtube clips and not be angry as (if you are) a White person—I just want to ask you to take a turn in other folks shoes—it hurt to be called a n-word in the day—it hurts when I have to tell my son to shut up and be polite when he is pulled over in the suburbs of our city (we call it DWB= driving while black). Not an excuse… just, did you have to tell your young family members to assume you did something wrong and be polite to officers that pulled you over? No excuses… just a context to understand “that” kind of hate speech.
It seems White folks (tell me a term that wouldn’t offend you) will likely find this stuff offensive—but it was MY world back in the 50’s and early 60’s. As you keenly noted in an earlier post about the south– It is what helped us stay together and each other when those lynching you spoke about in a previous post
Senators McCain and Obama are both good men, hardened by different kinds of fires—I will respect either of them when they are elected. Just know, as an old woman, I would be very proud if a man who looks a little like my grandson or granddaughter, actually can be a president (before I pass). I know—a youngster who has a good mind and good heart. I would also look forward, someday, to sharing a toast with you and your husband, to democracy, regardless of who wins this election!
God bless you and your family and friends,
    K.
p.s. I laughed at Lew’s computer deletion… My husband (God bless him) used to do something similar when I put things in the dishwasher! He’s passed on, but I think of him often!

  6. Kay Dear, yes I was there and thank you for your comments. I do not remember Jim Crow as i grew up in a small town in the northern panhandle of West Virginia sandwiched between non-segregated Ohio and Pennsylvania. West Virginia was segregated but as I recall the bad things just didn’t happen. I do remember not wondering where my friends Betty and Wanda went to school when I should have surely. In fact I rather envied them because they took the public bus to school and all I had to do was cross the street. I thought taking the bus was so special. Later in my teens I first became aware of the racial attitudes in our country with the murder and mutilation of Emmitt Till. He was just 14 years old and I was 14. I believe that is why at 18 and a freshman in college I spent my summers trying to help Blacks become eligible to vote. (You can read my profile if you care to at http://triadblogs.com/BrendaFayBowers )

I am very upset with where the civil rights movement has gone in the last 20 or so years. I do have hope however that as the what I call “middle generation” moves on the younger Blacks will develop a better attitude and perhaps come closer to Mr. King’s dream for us all. The racism in reverse I feel is higher than ever and is only fueling the feelings of those who still hate and getting some sympathy from those who don’t. There again I have written much about this problem also. Some call me racist which really fires me too. I was there when Mr. King spoke those words “I have a dream” and it was for all people of all colors and I still carry that dream. But people like Wright and Lewis are in my mind out to destroy that dream. Blacks could not and can not go forward without the help of many Whites. I am afraid of losing their support with all this racial hate. I have written much on my views on racism (see Categories at http://triadblogs.com/BrendaFayBowers ).

Color has no bearing on my feelings toward Obama. How I wish Colin Powell had run for president! Your race and mine, all Americans, beg for and deserve a president such as he would have made!

Kay Dear, I would love to meet you. Please e-mail me (check profile) we have much in common I think. Sincerely, BB

  7. Kay

    Oh Dear,

Brenda, I thought we were emailing- does this mean all of this has been posted on the internet? If so, I apologize and am terribly embarassed. I will ask my computer-wise god child to reply. She is out of town this weekend camping, you would like her, but please know she works in the schools as a school psychologist (of all thing)s doing that PBIS stuff we’ve talked about! Really, she is a good girl with a good heart and does good deeds! Oh my, this is truly embarassing!

  8. LOL Kay Dear so sorry about your embarrassment, but we two are indeed hanging out there for all to see. This post has set a record for hits on my posts. (That is, outside of local issues where i get my dander up at the city government).

Really tho, I think so many very instructive things have come out of our discussion so I will not delete a thing (except what I did by accident of course.) Two old gals with different experiences growing up having a civil discussion, in their old age and after a life time of probably the most vital history of our nation, about a presidential election where one of two firsts will take place: a first Black President of the United States or a first woman with a foot in the White House. Neither one able to change the others opinions, but okay with that. It is the meeting in friendship that counts. BB
