Porkarama Bill from House Democrats

A friend emailed me his post on the Miserable Porkarama  Bill the Democrats in the House of Representatives are trying to pass  by the American people as a stimulus package, while mine was in the works.  I am one to take the easy way out whenever possible (at my age  this is allowed!) , so here is my friend’s post.   I agree with everything he says, and my sources and notes agree with his figures.

I was so disgusted and angry yesterday that I simply had to get away from this thing until this morning.  Are these people really Americans?  Are they actually elected representatives who have convinced people to vote for them on the basis of actually caring about our country?  I don’t think so.   This package is pure pay back and pay off for political favors with no concern for it’s impact on our economy or our citizens. One blogger called it a case of the Congressmen emptying their in boxes.

Some are trying to put the blame on the Republicans by calling it a vote along Party lines.  The fact is  there were actual 8 Democrats who were so offended by this bill that they had to vote with the Republicans.

Now it is up to the Senators to show some intelligence and concern, but from what I am reading that is not about to happen as they are going the way of their cohorts in the House and larding the Bill around a very small core of possible measures that will actually do some good.   BB

The Stimulus Bill that Isn’t

By my estimate and from what I can find online, only $90 billion out of the proposed $825 billion stimulus package, or about 12 cents of every dollar, is designated for something that can plausibly be considered a growth stimulus. And many of those projects aren’t even likely to help the economy immediately.

At least there are some Democrats in the Senate, including the chairman of the committee who find this bill in dire need of overhaul. Maybe a real Stimulus Bill will be forthcoming after some deep thought and discussion. Otherwise it will only supply Congress and the rest of the Government with bigger shovels to dig us deeper into debt.
