California Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Same-Sex Marriage – NYTimes.com

I am happy to read that the courts listened to the people rather than taking it upon themselves to make the law. There should have NEVER been any question as to the laws legality after the vote was taken. It should NEVER have gone back to the California Supreme Court for a decision. When an issue is put before the voters what ever the vote is should ALWAYS be the final decision. This holds true when electing a president then why should it not hold true when deciding on a constitutional amendment?
Today’s opinion, written by Chief Justice Ronald M. George for a 6-to-1 majority, said that same-sex couples still have the right to civil unions, which gives them the ability to “choose one’s life partner and enter with that person into a committed, officially recognized, and protected family relationship that enjoys all of the constitutionally based incidents of marriage.” But the justices said that the voters had clearly expressed their will to limit the formality of marriage to heterosexual couples.
It will not stop here tho. The For and Against will continue to fight thru the courts so the issue will take years and probably eventually after so much energy and money is spent over really nothing more than a word. it will pass. The people who were For in this debate are fanatics and fanatics have no other life but their cause so they never give up. What would they do if they gave up? Whereas the man on the street who voted Against gay marriage has a life and this is just a side issue where his opinion was given.

Thanks for the laugh — what with the election of W having been decided by a bunch of activists judges and all.
