From the Telegraph News, London, England
I think the people of the United States need to read these articles by British reporters on what our President is doing on this trip overseas. One calls him the “looney toons President” and I have to agree. the headlines are all “Barack Obama holds fire sale….”
Barack Obama’s foreign policy blundering is now verging on the surreal. When Manuel Zelaya, the socialist president of Honduras, was overthrown, Obama first declared himself “deeply concerned”, then denounced the coup as illegal; now, with the support of the Obama White House, the Organisation of American States has given Honduras a three-day deadline to reinstate Zelaya. This is madness.
Zelaya was unseated by the army, but this was no ordinary military coup. The armed forces were carrying out a decision of the Honduran Supreme Court after it had declared unconstitutional a referendum Zelaya was attempting to hold to extend the length of time he could stay in office. This is a well-known ploy among leftist Latin American leaders in the mould of Hugo Chavez, the Marxist president of Venezuela.
By declaring that the Honduran constitution does not permit such a populist coup by the president, the Supreme Court was upholding the rule of law. Zelaya was attempting to subvert it. By removing him, the army upheld the constitution. Does Obama believe he has the power to overrule the US Supreme Court and the American Constitution by extending his period in office by plebiscite? If not, why should the Honduran constitution be disregarded by that country’s president?
Zelaya is a Chavez-style leftist, aiming at taking Honduras out of the American sphere of influence and into alliance with Marxist Venezuela. Now it emerges his strongest ally is the American president. This is perverse beyond belief and deeply damaging to America’s interests. I ask again: why does Barack Obama hate America?
own Dave Cameron flaky on renewal of Trident, Obama’s fire-sale diplomacy …
Barack Obama: the Looney Tunes President’s sell-out of US and Western interests is proceeding at such a speed that it is difficult to keep pace. Well said, Nile Gardiner, for asking if Barack Obama is the most naïve president in American history. The answer is undoubtedly yes – unless he has a secret agenda to cut America down to size. It was always in Russia that Obama threatened to do most damage and, as Nile Gardiner has rightly pointed out, these forebodings have been fulfilled. His supposed missile deal with Vladimir Putin (let’s cut straight to the organ-grinder and by-pass Medvedev, the monkey) is very satisfactory to Russian ambitions and realpolitik.
……The bottom line, however, is that it is Russia which is now in the lead in ICBM development, not America. For America voluntarily to reduce its nuclear superiority is madness. Bien-pensant talk of a nuclear-free world displays total stupidity in a global situation where nuclear weaponry is proliferating, not receding. There is even a nuclear bomb in Pakistan, which is teetering on the brink of failed statehood at the hands of Islamist insurgents. Is this a time for America to disarm, to “sell the store” as one trenchant right-wing commentator has already described Obama’s posturing in Moscow? For Obama, success is not the delivery of watertight nuclear security for America; it is a feel-good news conference and photo opportunity that will create huge approval ratings on liberal campuses where the delusions of 1968 and the anti-Vietnam war movement still linger on in these isolated Jurassic Parks.
It seems certain Obama will sacrifice the anti-missile shield in Europe that would have been our defence against a nuclear Iran after the ayatollahs, with Russian help, emerge as potential vapourising agents of the infidel. The interceptor missiles do not even carry warheads: they rely on an impact at 14,900mph to destroy any incoming missile, so Russian hysteria about this “threat” is synthetic.
The new deal, which Obama hopes to wrap up with the Kremlin by December, creates a far more level playing field for the Russians, whose strategic conventional weapons capability is greatly outclassed by that of the Americans, and whose deteriorating nuclear weapons stockpile is aging and in decline. The whole agreement makes no sense, and is little more than a vanity exercise for Barack Obama who has ludicrously pledged to carve out a nuclear-free world.
At this rate, even Jimmy Carter looks like General Patton compared to the dove-like current U.S. president. Why cut nuclear weapons at a time when rogue regimes such as North Korea and Iran are busy building their own programmes? Does the President seriously believe this move will encourage the likes of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Kim Jong Il to renounce their nuclear designs? What evidence is there in history that a unilateral policy of disarmament will prompt tyrannical regimes to change their behaviour?….the United States will have to sacrifice any plans for a ‘third site’ missile defense system in eastern and central Europe for Moscow to sign up to a news arms treaty. This would be a huge betrayal of key U.S. allies Poland and the Czech Republic. No doubt Moscow will also demand the Obama administration give the Russians a bigger say over NATO expansion eastwards, including blocking the entry of Georgia and Ukraine.By agreeing to a grand bargain with the Medvedev/Putin regime, President Obama has unwisely opened a Pandora’s box of concessions that will only enhance Russia’s hand in its “Near Abroad”. At the same time, the Obama administration’s naïve approach will strengthen the resolve of America’s enemies such as Iran to aggressively pursue their nuclear ambitions and exploit the weakness of a president who is gravely undercutting American global power in an increasingly dangerous world.
It is but natural that the British will find it hard to digest, to see a black becoming the President of the most powerfull nation on earth.
This attempt by a British columnist to raise a question mark on Barak Obama’s foreign policy initiatives is malicious to say the least.
Ohhhhh? And I believe it to be the reaction of the entire world. You see I read many newspapers and bloggers around the world and it is only the few who have been brain washed in the United States who still see this person as anything but a fool or a traitor.
As for a Black man being a hang up for the politically correct British….well you have to be kidding. BB
