snopes.com: Michelle Obama London Sightseeing
The above is making the rounds on the e-mail grape vine and is true according to Snopes. It is a bit late since the story happened when Michelle Obama, her mother and the daughters flew to Paris in early June with the President for his “official visit”. Of course time was taken off for a family sightseeing tour. Then Michelle, the girls and Michelle’s mother flew to England for a two day tour of London while the President returned to Washington.
Of course the First Lady, First daughters and First Lady’s Mother had full luxury American Royalty treatment at tax payer expense. (Boeing 757, secret service and motorcade and shutting down London where ever they went. The Brits are more accustomed to this than Americans so the London newspapers while reporting on it complete with pictures seemed quite pleased with the visit.
We Americans were not at all pleased. There was very little reporting of this visit in the American press naturally, so even tho the event took place in June and we are now into August I see no harm in reminding you that we now have a Royal Family (and the Royal Family’s extended family) Who see no harm in junketing around the world on sight seeing tours and having “date nights” all over the country while we tax payers pick up the tab. All the Obama’s have to pay is the air fare of a first class ticket on a regular commercial air line.
This may also be a great time to remind you that the deficit so far this year has reached $1.4 trillion! Unemployment is up to 9.5% and climbing. So far this year 87 banks have gone belly up. The only American auto maker standing on it’s own two feet is Ford with the resultant closing of innumerable dealerships and parts companies. (Of course GM is still on life support because we tax payers bought it to give our President the experience of being a CEO after he fired the CEO chosen by the Board of Directors) And the beat goes on, and on and on and on while the First Family enjoys their favored life style. Michelle Obama Takes Girls to London for Fish and Chips

Imagine this — and when do we get totally fed up?A Boeing 757 and a fleet of armored cars for Michelle’s sight seeing tour!

On Sunday, President Obama flew back to the United States on Air Force One. His wife, two daughters and her mother did a bit of shopping in Paris before taking their own Boeing 757 (C-32) over to London to do some sight seeing.
We all remember Obama’s admonishment to corporate CEO’s in February:
“You can’t get corporate jets, you can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayers dime.”
Apparently that doesn’t apply to his wife.
The London Times opened it’s description of Michelle’s visit this way:
Motorcycle outriders, armoured Chevrolets and bullet-headed men in raincoats criss-crossed London yesterday as Michelle Obama and her daughters spent a second day on an unofficial visit to the capital.
The Tim es went on to describe that when Michelle and the girls arrived at Westminster Abbey, the building was closed to tourists with people already in told to “wait against the wall.” An American visiting the Abbey said “Right then I knew it was probably someone from our ‘royal family’.”
Michelle’s motorcade shut down the London street above as the First Lady of the World and her children go for Fish and Chips at a pub in Mayfair . The entourage inside the restaurant was 15 people while dozens more wait outside. Include the dozens of Air Force personnel to fly and service the plane, embassy personnel and other staff and we are talking about a serious expenditure of tax payer dollars.
Meanwhile, millions of Americans have lost their jobs and won’t be able to take their family on a summer holiday. Despite their circumstances they’ll still be expected to fork over the tax dollars to pay for Michelle’s trip.
