EXCLUSIVE: House quietly gives ‘bonuses’ to top aides – Washington Times
Funny that this article just attracted my attention right after a post where I hit on the terribly misplaced and mismanaged and miss everything Student Loan Programs. Now the government has been trying to help out some of these “student loan poor” educated working poor by offering some subsidies to those unable to get ahead because of the massive burden of student loans.
So they offer these programs to their aides and staff. I see no problem with that (at least no more than I see with the entire student loan mess!) but somehow I don’t think that people making $168,000 is what the public had in mind when they read about these subsidies.
No I think the public expected some help for school teachers making $40,000 or hospital techs or college trained nutritionist and cooks or police officers or book keepers or computer techs or journalist. All of these fields require a college degree, but none pay very well in most cases. The fact is most fields today require college or tech school degrees which forces students to get student loans to get the degree to get the job so they can pay back the loans, but then live in poverty because after making the loan payment each month they can’t afford much else. It is a fact that a good many students owe more than they make annually. They will be paying on these loans monthly for 20 or more years. (One provision in the just passed legislation to help people with student loans is that after paying 25 years the debt will be forgiven!) But one point about this entire program of helping people with student loans: it only applies to government loans and not to the private industry loans that made and is making billions for the bankers who took advantage of young people who needed the money and failed to read the small print. It was one of those programs like so many that were crafted with the input people who were most likely to benefit from them. In other words, the colleges and bankers crafted the student loan programs.
But to reiterate: I hardly think these subsidies were meant for people making over $100,000 a year! Of course our spend thrift Congress (Democrats AND Republicans) disagree and hand out our tax dollars as they always have with an open hand and big smile and accepting of the thank yous. BB
