Congress slaps ACORN again – National Politics Blog – Political Intelligence – Boston.com
ACORN is corrupt and wasteful and full of thievery and thuggery so you can be assured I am no champion of ACORN. But ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis has a point when she said:
“One unintended – and positive – consequence of the witch hunt against ACORN is that it could help rein in the likes of Halliburton and Blackwater and even Wall St,” she said in the statement. “If the standard is that organizations that have broken the law shouldn’t get federal money, then let’s set that standard consistently. There are numerous corporations that have been proven records of malfeasance. For its part – and although we don’t claim perfection in our work for poor and working families – ACORN has never been convicted of any crime in a court of law – the conservative imagination and the media are another matter.”
I have no doubt that Congressmen are so eager to throw ACORN under the buss and Obama is going to let them as a sop to Americans anger as shown in the Tea Party Rallies, Townhall meetings and the Sept. 12 March on Washington. Since Glenn Beck whom they consider the “mobs” latest Pied Piper has growled so much about ACORN our elected ones think they can appease our wrath with this show of “tough on corruption” act.
But the lady is right, ACORN has been indicted but has not been convicted of committing any crime. Now Congress is well within their rights to cut ACORN from any federal tax money so the lady is not right when she says:
“To include language in legislation that targets a single organization is unconstitutional and wrong,” ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis said in a statement. Congressman Nadler said it best: “The punishment here did not follow some criminal or administrative process with basic due process protections. It flowed out of a Fox News network report, which led the call for a public lynching. There was no statement of charges and no reference to a judicial or administrative finding of wrongdoing by ACORN.’ ”
She is right when she claims ACORN is being “singled out”. I’m not with her on the unfairly part.
Lewis added that ACORN is being singled out unfairly — after a controversy started when employees it later fired appeared to advise conservative activists posing as a prostitute and her pimp on how to skirt the law — when other groups and corporations are accused of doing much worse.
We should all get on the telephone, fax or email and tell each and every congressman we have an address for (See my post for Senators: >>Senators telephone and Fax listing. Save your nation and call these guys today! ) and tell them their actions with ACORN were Correct. THEN name at least one (1) other corrupt mess they can stop funding. Health Care Reform Obama style is a biggee. UNESCO is a good one. In fact anything to do with the United Nations is good. The Obama financial reform package that would designate certain institution as in effect “too big to fail” and there fore promise they will always be bailed out regardless of what they do is another. ((See: >>Obama Econ. Adviser Volcker Doubts President’s Plan – ABC News ) Or just pick a post and you will find something to complain about and asking Congress to put on the chopping block.
Out of curiosity, when you say “full of thievery…,” does that apply to 10%, 20%, or 80%, or 100% of its activities? Are you suggesting that all of the people who worked with or supported the entity were corrupt, and that the organization served no positive societal purpose or function?

Reggie, I feel very sure there is much good done by some employees of ACORN. However the leadership is as I have stated “full of thievery” and therefore encourages employees to use any methods at all to achieve their aims, which seems to be primarily getting back at “the man”. You know, that elusive “the man” who is keeping “me and other poor people like me” down. So you do what ever is necessary to cheat the government (which means taxpayers but not many appear to understand that fact). They also put the hurt on financial institutions by mob force not seeming to understand that when the financial institutions give in to one group they take from another which again is the working stiff tax payer.
You of all people know there is no 100% to anything even orange juice has water added to it! But there can and surely is pickets of 100% in any organization. ACORN and all of its affiliates need to be taken off the government payrolls and then what “good they do” will be taken up by another organization that hasn’t grown so large and greedy.
Did you happen to read Card’s piece in the Greensboro Rhinoceros Times last week on unions? Great article and he could have been speaking of any organization and been equally accurate. Power simply corrupts so when an entity (meaning human beings at the top) gains too much power they have to be brought back down for the good of all. BB
