Outrage over a Statue of Joseph Stalin to be Unveiled in Virginia

Statue of Joseph Stalin to be Unveiled in Virginia | The Foundry: Conservative Policy News..

One of the Conservatives biggest gripes is that history has been rewritten.  I am one of those gripers!    History is and should be shown with all of its warts and wrinkles, bloody battles, and heroes. Nothing should  be left out because  it wasn’t nice or pretty or politically correct.   There is a memorial being displayed to the soldiers  of the United States, Britain, Canada and France who stormed the Beaches of Normandy on D-Day.  Part of the display  will “unveiled with statues of western Allied leaders, including President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Harry Truman. The memorial will also include a bust of dictator Joseph Stalin.”

The outrage is that Joseph Stalin is a part of the display.   This outrage and those not wanting even a bust of Joseph Stalin  ARE WRONG!  These people want to rewrite history to suit their politically correct little minds.  In  point of fact  it is wrong to have statues of all of the others and only a bust of Stalin.  I  know he was a monster and murderer  but this is one of the bloody warts of history.  Fact:  The war could not have been won without the help of the Russians!  Their invasion of Germany from the north and west  and the other countries invading from the south and east was the determining factor in  bringing Hitler to defeat.  Fact:  Altho Stalin at the beginning of Hitler’s rise to power was an ally of Hitler he soon changed his allegienace when Hitler double crossed him.  Then the Russian Army on the northwester  front was of considerable help in tying Hitler’s hands and forcing him to split his army and send troop[s to defend Germany from the West thus limiting what he could pour in to the war with the other countries.  Fact:  Stalin played as large a role in the meetings of the world leaders as anyone of them and should most certainly be given not just a bust but a full statue to signify this fact.  Fact:  It was Stalin’s army fighting the German Army and having to pass thru the western European country in order to do this that gave him the power to annex these countries into the Soviet Union.  His armies were already  in place to take over the governments of all these countries.  This then started the “Cold War” period in history.

It would have been very possible to create a statue to the soldiers by using the soldiers themselves rather than the leaders and in that case there would have been no controversy and the right people would have been honored!  The Vietnamese memorial and statue is to the soldiers and is the most  heart breaking, awesome and inspiring memorial I have ever seen.

So suck up and accept history as it was and not as you would have it people.  BB

Statue of Joseph Stalin to be Unveiled in Virginia

This Sunday, people around the world will honor the 66th anniversary of D-Day, when over 160,000 troops from the United States, Britain, France and Canada bravely stormed the beaches of Normandy, marking a turning point in World War II. In Bedford, Virginia, a memorial to the invasion will be unveiled with statues of western Allied leaders, including President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and President Harry Truman. The memorial will also include a bust of dictator Joseph Stalin.

Residents of Bedford are rightfully outraged. Annie Pollard, a Bedford County supervisor, and a volunteer at the memorial told the Lynchburg News and Advance: “I just don’t think it belongs on the hill with them…To me, he (Stalin) is just a murderer. I just can’t see how he fits in with the memorial. They are people we want to remember. He’s someone I’d rather forget.”

James Morrison and fellow veterans from the Bedford Post 54 of the American Legion are equally outraged and have been fighting the effort since the plan was announced in 2007. Morrison, author of the book “Bedford Goes to War: The Heroic Story of a Small Virginia Community in World War II” said: “It’s a disgrace and a dishonor to the veterans.”

So why do it? William McIntosh, the president of the Memorial Foundation said: “He certainly was a fact of life and a major ally during the second World War … There’s nothing about the presentation that’s going to be flattering of Stalin.”

Dr. Lee Edwards, a Distinguished Fellow at the Heritage Foundation and chairman of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, disagrees. Edwards released a statement saying:

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, statues of Joseph Stalin have been torn down all over Europe and even in the former Soviet Union itself. The world is closer than ever before to a consensus on the evils of communism and Stalin’s primary role in the worst crimes of the last century. And yet a statue of Stalin is included in the National D-Day Memorial, to be dedicated in Bedford, Virginia, this Sunday, June 6.

Near the statue of Stalin, a plaque catalogues Stalin’s crimes against millions of people both in Russia and throughout Europe. But no mere plaque can justify the inclusion of the statue which dishonors the heroic individuals who sacrificed so much on D-Day and in the Cold War.

A bust of Joseph Stalin has no place in a memorial whose purpose is to salute the brave soldiers who made D-Day a vital victory in the crusade for freedom.

It’s time for Mr. McIntosh and those responsible for the memorial in Bedford to do the right thing. Follow the lead of those who were oppressed under Joseph Stalin and tear down this statue. You can learn more about the victims of communism at www.victimsofcommunism.org.

Stalin was one of the most brutal dictators the world has ever know. He was in the same class as Hitler and let’s not forget Anita Dunn’s favorite political philosopher, Chairman Mao. All three stand out in history as heinous mass-murderers. I understand your point, Brenda, but should we honor someone responsible for the brutal killing of nearly 20 million of his own people? He out performed Hitler in mass murder. To make matters worse Russian revisionist have claimed Stalin’s murders were completely rational.

To some extent this bust legitimizes that claim. For the blank slates being brainwashed in our socialist universities, it confirms the idea that Stalin wasn’t so bad. After-all, he was our ally.

If Stalin’s bust is to be displayed alongside Churchill, Roosevelt, and Truman, then I think a biography should be displayed beneath each representation. It should briefly but adequately and accurately describe the life and accomplishments of each leader.

If they did this I’d be an enthusiastic supporter of giving Mr. Stalin a statue.

American. As I understand it they are putting a plaque beneath each statue telling what each man did in WWII and some bio. info. The one they have of Stalin is not at all flattering and does mention the things you want said. It also points out that he was an ally of Hitler first before coming over to our side when he saw that Hitler was going for Russia too. He then decided to go after Hitler with us and set himself up to take control of all of western Europe that Hitler had defeated.

Revisionist history is just exactly what I am against. And just because Stalin was a monster does not negate the part he played in WWII and the defeat of Hitler. Therefore he should have a statue rather than just a bust. A bust in my opinion would be politically correct and revisionist.

I have just a little more regard for Franklin Roosevelt than I do for Stalin. He too was a monster IMO. He was a Marxist and Socialist who kept the depression going years after it should have because of his policies and regulations of business. Not allowing the free market to work. Thousands starved to death in America during this period but it is a fact never mentioned. My grandparents told me about this aspect of the Great Depression.

He also took our country into the war simply to get out of the depression. If he had a concern for defeating Hitler he would have gotten into the war earlier and before Hitler had devastated England and France, as well as gotten his hands on the natural resources and industries of France that he needed.

Franklin Roosevelt hung our nation with the biggest Ponzi scheme ever with Social Security. He did this against the advice of almost everyone because they warned him what would happen as people began to live longer and actually draw SS. He did this not for the people but to get more taxes out of them.

He was a tyrant and worked deals with Stalin for Stalin to take over all of western Europe. Truman knew nothing about this and certainly would not have thrown western Europeans to the dogs in any event.

So if Stalin deserves only a bust then so does Franklin Roosevelt.

Hey man, thanks for stopping by. You were gone for awhile there and I missed you. Have been rather busy myself so just get the news articles read and my blog post done before I have to turn off the computer and go to work on something else. BB

I’ve been slammed at work and I’m in the process of buying a new home while selling my current house. probably won’t be able to blog for a while yet.

I am in agreement with your assessment of FDR. Only I don’t believe he got us into WWII to end the Great Depression. The GD was good for FDR. He demonized business just like his counterpart today. He taxed businesses and working people to the point of stifling all economic activity. in 1939 my Great-grandfather lost the farm that had been in the family since 1848, not to business failure but to the tax burden he could not afford to pay. He’d been a life-long Democrat too. My grandfather turned Republican on that incident.

Rather I think FDR entered WWII kicking and screaming. Forced to take part in it after Pearl Harbor. He had but a little compassion for the plight of Europeans, Pacific Islanders, or Asians. American isolationism ruled the pre-war years; it’s not our problem.

The economic boon that occurred in the post-war years was not the result of government spending on the New Deal or the war effort, but rather the result of good fortune. The world lay waste following 7 years of a vicious global conflict, that is all but one lucky corner of industrialization. With its infrastructure intact, America had a desperate global market clambering for its goods.

Yet kids are taught today that FDR and his socialist policies ended the GD. At best they learn that WWII ended the GD, however, both of these explanations point to massive government spending. Government spending is the ultimate economic bubble because it cannot be sustained forever. It is the classic analogy of a bucket of water trying to fill itself. But once again I digress.

On this one, Brenda, you win. As long as they are explaining the facts of each world leader, there is no reason not to include that monster, Stalin. I would only hope they give him an evil scar or something dramatic to let kids know he was evil. 😉

American, I think it is more of a draw🙂 BB

Refusing to glorify someone is not rewriting history. What’s next Brenda? Making churches place devil statues???

No Paul no devil statues in churches. However the way many of the churches are leaning and preaching it may be that the real devil has already gotten in the door. Many churches are backing Obama’s agenda which is directly against the Bible. Thou shall not kill but many churches accep0t abortion. I could go on.

They are only showing a bust of Stalin and not an entire body statue as with the others. Stalin was a monster but the facts are clear that without him the Allies would not have been able to defeat Hitler when they did, so in the interest of teaching history correctly his part in the war must be acknowledged.

Hitler was working on the big bomb and with more time he just might have gotten it and used it on the US rather than the US using it on Japan. So we have to give Stalin some credit.

The one who is glorified that bugs the pee out of me is Franklin Roosevelt. Now he was a creature who manipulated the American people and kept the depression going much longer than it would have for his own purposes. one example: in 1935 when people were starving to death here in the US he decided to regulate farm prices upwards so he ordered 30,000 hogs slaughtered and I don’t know how much in grains he ordered destroyed. All to make a shortage and therefore raise the prices for these items. This is when his Agriculture Department got a hold on the farmer and the tax payers got stuck with the subsidies to farmers. My father-in-law was a farmer and he had to plow up his fields of tomatoes if there was a glut on the market which would have brought the prices down. then the government (tax payers) paid him for the tomatoes he plow back in the ground. That started with Roosevelt.

I believe we will someday find out that he was in a secret deal with Stalin to split Europe with Stalin taking hat he did. I truly believe this. Churchill wasn’t in on the deal and was IMO the only statesman in the group. BB
