This Week in Government Failure in Cutting Spending

This Week in Government Failure | Cato @ Liberty.

I am appalled at the stupidity coming out of Washington.  The Democrats I can understand since they are simply so full of stuff they  are simply sinking in a mire of lies and wishful thinking totally unaware of what is really happening.   I have a bit more hope for Republicans who sometimes manage  to actually appear to know the country is floundering on the brink of disaster.  But not this week for the OLD DOGS Republicans because they are now acting like stunned mourners at a funeral:  Serious, appalled and paralyzed!  The New Dogs elected in 2010 and a few of the less Washingtonized  OLD DOGS  are doing their best but can’t seem to get the numbers needed top move the right legislation.  BB

This Week in Government Failure

Over at Downsizing the Federal Government, we focused on the following issues this week:

(Please do go to this site as a great deal more is covered that you should know than just the few items here.    There is a graph that tells the story of Government spending and government subsidies that exposes like nothing else just what the two years of Obamanation has gotten us.  BB)

  • Sen. Rand Paul introduces a practical, common sense budget that recognizes that the federal government’s growth has become unsustainable, and thus a threat to our economic well-being and future living standards.  (Paul’s budget proposal is sensible but the Democrats control the Senate still so Paul’s proposal won’t see the light of day except on blogs like mine.  BB)
  • According to the Congressional Budget Office, the president’s latest budget proposal would once again leave “our people” with a “mountain of debt.”
  • It would be nice if the latest example of FAA bungling woke Congress up to the idea of privatizing our nation’s air traffic control system.
  • (Because these Air Traffic control people are unionized government workers they can not be fired.  They will simply continue in their incompetence until they retired with a glorious pensions paid for by We the People.  After the almost disaster at Reagan International Airport last week when it is believed the Air Traffic controller had fallen asleep and the pilot of an incoming plane had to call another control tower miles away to help him land the FAA merely proposed putting two people on duty instead of one and investing in an expensive alert system to alert controllers when a plan was in their area.  A private company would fire the controller and make damned sure the rest stayed awake on the job!  BB)
  • Instead of tinkering with federal welfare programs, let’s have a public discussion and debate over the fundamental justness and desirability of letting Washington dictate how to meet the needs of the less fortunate. (  Do read this article.  “Since President Lyndon Johnson declared a War on Poverty in 1964, Americans have spent around $16 trillion on means-tested welfare. We will spend another $10 trillion over the next decade based on recent projections. Even with all these resources devoted to assistance for the poor, poverty is higher today than it was in the 1970s.”  the fact is and has been proven again and again that if you pay people not to work they certainly will not work.  Welfare is merely payment NOT TO WORK!  This goes for any government program that gives people money.   the government in its magnamity with your money is now paying people unemployment benefits for 99 weeks or almost two years to sit on their buns.  Studies have proven that people don’t get serious about looking for a job until their unemployment is about to run out so with our system today the unemployed would start  seriously looking for a jo0b around week 85 and then take a job regardless of what it is around week 98.  It has been proven from the outcomes that the federal welfare programs have been a failure to our people and most certainly to the poor!    BB)
  • Electric vehicle subsidies: The Obama administration apparently believes that it possesses the unique foresight to optimally plan the economy.  (Electric cars is the most boneheaded idea yet.  Where is all that electricity coming from but from the polluting  oil/coal and nuclear power plants.  Electricity does not come out of a wall socket!   I wish someone would tell those fools in Washington that simple truth!  BB)
